Bus Safety

School Event Promotion

The Challenge

A bus is late delivering kids to school, due to mechanical difficulties.  Kids are now on the bus, late for class.  A replacement bus needs to get sent quickly, and somehow the teachers need to be notified so they do not mark kids absent, while parents need to be notified for audit purposes.

Benefits of Solving

Solving this challenge will benefit the school in the following ways:

  • Drastically reduces time required to transfer students from the disabled bus to a working bus, reducing the risk of injury
  • Allows a campus waiting for late children to prepare ahead of time for the check-in process, placing them in their classroom sooner and minimizing impact to education time.
  • Reduces anxiety amongst parents waiting for their children to arrive from school leading to fewer inbound calls and complaints
  • Timely communications to parents increases good will, trust in the administrators, and a tighter community involvement with the district

Solution

The focus of this solution is on rapid broadcasting of a common message over various mediums to various targeted audiences.

  • From an off-network phone, a user records a message communicating when the delayed students can be expected to arrive at home or school; that message will be broadcast to a selected Dial Out Group representing the parents of the students on the bus
  • From an off-network phone, a user records a message communicating when the delayed students can be expected to arrive at home or school; that message will be broadcast to a selected Paging Group that represents the administration of the campus affected by the late bus
  • From either an IP phone or off-network phone, a user dials a number and automatically the transportation department emergency response team members are called and connected to a conference call to coordinate transferring the students on the disabled bus to another one
  • From an IP phone, a user hits a speed dial button, or selects from options on the Services menu and broadcast a pre-defined message to the administration of the affected campus
  • Transportation management views the results of each call out to parents on a standard reporting feature, or download the results to a spreadsheet for further analysis
  • From an intuitive, three step web driven GUI, a user types a message to be broadcast, selects how to disseminate the message choosing any combination of on-network phones, off-network phones, cell phones, email addresses, or as cellular text messages, and submit for delivery to the affected students' parents and administrators of the school affected by the late bus
  • Through IPsession Add-ons Database Integration (IPfusion), automatically maintain data of students registered as bus riders that is used by IPsession applications with main data source already maintained by the school district or affected campus
